Rimini Blu

Bitossi-1

Bitossi’s ‘Rimini Blu’ collection of ceramics was created in the early 50s by Aldo Londi, the former art director of Bitossi ceramics. The collection of vases and animals is characterised by their unique blue and turquoise glazes and irregular texture and many are still in production today. Continue reading

Melamine Egg Cups

melamine-egg-cups

How do you like your eggs? I like mine soft boiled in a Melamine egg cup and depending on my mood I choose between pastel and bright. Love the colours, the shape and the fact that they can’t break (well nearly). Produced by Melaware in the 60s.

Bargain: £1 each on Camden Market and a set of 4 for £10 at the Ally Pally Vintage Fair

Ally Pally

Alexandra Palace

My favourite Antique fair happens 2-3 times a year at Alexandra Palace in North London. Luckily I can walk over there in 20 minutes. The iconic venue build in 1873 is the perfect background for over 600 antique and vintage stalls. It attracts a fair amount of local and international dealers but more interestingly sellers clearing out their aunties attic or someone selling off the long forgotten contents of their basement. Here’s the bargain territory.

East German Loveliness

fat-lava-haldensleben

Who says it was dull and grey behind the Iron Curtain? This patterned loveliness produced by VEB (Volkseigener Betrieb – The People’s Factory) Haldensleben instantly became my favourite ‘Fat Lava’ piece. I only regret that I didn’t buy the second, slightly smaller edition as well.

Spitalsfield Market for £20. Thank you people!

‘Flower Power’ Coffee Storage Jar

coffee-jar

Manufactured in the 60s by Crown Devon this pattern was adapted from the 60s fashion designer Mary Quant‘s ‘Carnaby daisy’ design. Painted in the era’s most popular colours of reds and oranges this jar is a perfect example of the 60s ‘Flower power’ spirit.

Bargain: Kentish Town charity shop for a couple of £.

German Threesome

Christmas came early this year in the shape of this ‘Fat Lava’ trio from Spitalsfield Market. A Steuler ‘Zyklon’ and a Bay vase and a gorgious lamp base of unidentified origins. All together for £40.
