‘Maori’ coffee pot in Meakin’s staple shape ‘Studio’, designed by Tom Arnold in 1964. Perhaps reflecting a taste for the exotic that was typical of the 60s, his particular example is a stylised interpretation of the traditional colour palette and patterns of traditional Maori designs.
The ‘Studio’ shape coffee pots were decorated in a variety of brightly coloured transfer-printed patterns. A vert very comprehensive book on J&G Meakin is identifying most of the Meakin patterns although many pattern names, dates and designers remain a mystery.
